LPG Home Heat brings you the news on the government’s latest energy saving initiative – the boiler scrappage scheme. The idea behind the scheme is to help cut energy bills and CO² emissions. The government is offering people with G-rated boilers a £400 discount to trade their old boilers in for a more energy efficient A-rated boiler. There are around three and a half million households in England with G-rated boilers, according to the Energy Savings Trust. A G-rated boiler is generally over 25 years old; if you would like to find out the age of your boiler it is easy to check, just visit the Government Boiler Efficiency Database for more information. The UK is striving to fulfil one of the most ambitious C0² emission reduction targets in the world. Incredibly domestic heating accounts for 14 per cent of the UK’s CO² emissions. Installing an efficient heating system is an effective way of reducing carbon emissions and reducing household energy bills. This government initiative has been spearheaded by Prime Minister, Gordon Brown and the Climate Change Secretary, Ed Miliband. Mr. Brown said: “The boiler scrappage scheme will slash household energy bills and carbon emissions while providing an important boost for the British heating industry. “The scheme shows how the government continues to invest in British industries and jobs of the future.” The boiler scrappage scheme will officially open to applicants on the 18th January 2010 and discount vouchers will be issued from this time.
