Intertek wins Kelda Excellence Award
Intertek Energy & Water consultancy services (formerly Intertek METOC) received the Positive Environmental Impact Award at the annual Kelda Excellence Awards. Intertek is the leading quality and safety solutions provider to industries worldwide
The award was made to the Bathing Waters Predictive Modelling Team, which also included Yorkshire Water Services, Mouchel, Clear Consulting and CREH. Over the course of 2 years new methodologies and assessment techniques were developed to address the requirements of the 2006 Bathing Waters Directive, which comes into force across the Union in 2015. These methods are now being adopted in many areas throughout the UK.
Yorkshire Water has committed to assisting in the delivery of the highest ‘Excellent’ standard for beaches in Yorkshire, and Intertek’s modelling tools and expertise are key to understanding the requirements of this challenging target.
The award recognises the contribution made to improving the environment through the delivery of better quality beaches and reducing cost through finely targeted investment, thereby avoiding unnecessary construction and impact, and saving Yorkshire Water and its customers millions of pounds. Intertek received many congratulations from Yorkshire water staff and their partners.
The three stage selection process included written justification and details of the work and contribution to Kelda, a formal presentation to Yorkshire Water, and an interview with Yorkshire Water Directors.
The Awards Dinner, 28th November 2012, was attended by around 500 finalists and was hosted by Julia Bradbury, best known for presenting the BBC One programme Countryfile and other documentaries and consumer affairs programmes.
Ed Bramley, Environment Manager at Yorkshire Water stated “Yorkshire Water takes these awards very seriously and the evening is a highlight of the year to reflect on important achievements made. The work of the team has made a significant contribution to improving the environment and the water quality at our beaches, whilst also reducing cost through finely targeted investment. Intertek has provided an excellent service, and has been a major contributor to the work”.
Richard Dannatt, Associate Director of Intertek Energy & Water consultancy services, said “we have been working very closely with Yorkshire Water for the past two years to provide innovative and forward thinking solutions. It is great to be recognised with the Award”.
This work follows on from Intertek being commissioned by Yorkshire Water for their specialist modelling framework and building a reputation for excellence of service and client focus. This demonstrates Intertek’s continuous development in emerging areas of the regulatory framework relating to the environment and its customers’ needs to reduce costs.
