Sir Elton John's latest AIDS Foundation Academy Awards Viewing Party Raises $5.25m

The 20th annual Elton John AIDS Foundation Academy Awards Viewing Party took place at West Hollywood Park, Los Angeles on Sunday 26th February 2012.

The event has been run over the past two decades since 1992 when Elton John promised to hold an Oscar Viewing Party every year to raise money for his cause, until a cure is found for the disease. The Elton John AIDS Foundation, has to date, gathered and funded over $200 million towards this end.

The evening has built up a long standing reputation for being an occasion that brims with elegance and generosity in equal measures, and Sunday's gathering lived up to this by the $5.25 million raised. Among this year's benefactors were Caesar's Palace, M.A.C, Viva Glam, Rebecca Wang Entertainment, The Walt Disney Studios and Lorraine Schwartz. Rebecca Wang was delighted to support the event as a benefactor for the second year in succession.

Sir Elton John and his partner David Furnish hosted a stellar line up of guests, including Jean Dujardin, Whoopi Goldberg, Smokey Robinson, Steven Tyler, Quincy Jones, and Billie Jean King.

A five course gala dinner was followed by a telecast of the 84th Academy Awards and the renowned auction. This year's prizes included a tennis lesson with Grand Slam Master Rafael Nadal which sold twice, with bidding reaching $190,000 on both occasions. Steve Tisch, owner of NFL Champion New York Giants paid $100,000 for an in home cooking class for up to ten people with the Chef Cat Cora and a bid for $230,000 won the opportunity to join Elton John and David Furnish at the Vanity Fair Oscar party.

Co-sponsors for the evening were international jeweller and watchmaker Chopard, drinks company Neuro, and financial services company Wells Fargo, while American Airlines is the official sponsoring airline of the Foundation.
