Adam Doubleyou will represent Canada at international World Finals in Toronto November 4-9

The beat dropped at the Red Bull Thre3Style National Final in Calgary last night, where eight of Canada’s top DJs dueled set-for-set in a countrywide competition for sonic supremacy. Fueled by a crowd of hundreds of fans that packed the legendary Cowboys Nightclub from wall to wall, it was Montreal’s Adam Doubleyou that emerged victorious, earning himself a ticket to represent Canada at the Red Bull Thre3Style World Finals in Toronto November 4-9.

“I’m truly astonished, no lie. I’m so thankful. It’s insane to get props from some of my favourite DJs like that; I just wanted to play what I had prepared clean. I’m definitely clearing my whole schedule to practice my stuff for World Finals – I just hope people like it!”

-        Adam White (DJ Adam Doubleyou)

Each local DJ had fifteen minutes to perform a set that included three different genres of music and were judged based on originality, creativity, technicality, stage presence and the crowd’s response. At the Red Bull Thre3Style World Final event in November, the top DJs from 21 countries around the world will compete for the ultimate title.

STAR JUDGES AND LIVE PERFORMANCES

Last night’s National Final competition hosted a roster of international DJ heavyweight judges, including Skratch Bastid, Grandtheft, previous Red Bull Thre3Style world champions Hedspin and Four Color Zack and Calgary’s own Smalltown DJs.

“Canada’s DJ talent never ceases to amaze me; each of tonight’s competitors represented their hometowns so well. Adam Doubleyou really showed why he deserved this year’s title, though – he performed one of the most creative and skillful sets we’ve seen, affirming tonight’s huge win”

– Pete Emes, Smalltown DJs

As some of the most renowned DJs in the music industry, all event judges performed sets of their own to the backdrop of deafening crowd cheers before Montreal native, NYC legend and international sensation A-TRAK took to the stage for the night’s final set. A nightlong fury of scratches and loops, this was one of the biggest musical events the city of Calgary has ever seen.

THE ROAD TO NATIONALS

During the month of September, thousands of Canadians flooded the dance floors of eight regional qualifying events hosted across the country. At each Qualifier event, eight of the local city’s top DJs battled for a chance to represent their hometown at the National Final in Calgary. The regional finalists representing each Canadian qualifier city last night were:

  • Nick Bike (Vancouver)
  • C-Sik (Calgary)
  • Wakcutt (Edmonton)
  • Charly Hustle (Winnipeg)
  • Kid SL (Ottawa)
  • M-Rock (Toronto)
  • Adam Doubleyou (Montreal)
  • Tom Fleming (Halifax)

THE HISTORY OF RED BULL THRE3STYLE

Since then, in three short years, Red Bull Thre3Style has grown to what is now the largest DJ competition on earth. This year’s competition features the top local DJs from 23 countries around the world, including Canada, New Zealand, Croatia and Albania.
