RegPoint Ltd has won the international mHealth prize, granted by the Aegis Graham Bell Awards®, the world´s largest award in fields of T.I.M.E. (Telecom, Internet, Media, and Edutainment). RegPoint won the price for its early warning systems that warns about tsunamis, earthquakes, epidemics and other dangers – as well as RegPoint's mHealth product that improves doctor-patient communication.

”RegPoint's tsunami warning solution product is really a great innovation, which can be of significant use in the most disaster prone country in the world. More than that the other products have shown a great potential in helping the patients”, says Dr. Abhijit Gangopadhyay, Dean, Aegis School of Business. RegPoint's technical platform is developed in Sweden. The company´s system will be used for early warning against tsunamis in India by INCOIS, a tsunamicenter established after the tsunami catastrophe in 2004.

Warnings via SMS to millions of regular phones
“This is big for us since the winners usually are large company like Cisco, Ericsson and Intel, not small companies like us”, says Sophia Salenius, RegPoint´s Founder and Managing Director. It was the Indians that approached us; we are fairly alone in this field. The way the service works is that the individual user registers to the geographical area where he or she usually can be found. Then they get an early warning via SMS if a tsunami is coming to that area”. That it is an SMS is crucial since many people cannot afford smartphones.

Could save millions of lives
“We are extremely proud to partner with RegPoint & INCOIS in providing a service that could potentially save millions of lives in the future”, says Rajiv Gupta, Chairman & Founder GoBindas Entertainment.  GoBindas has been a leading VAS player in the Indian market for the past seven years. Sophia Salenius continues: “The next step is to make it possible to locate the SMS-warnings automatically. New technique that we are now implementing makes it possible to geolocalize mobiles in a certain area. Thanks to our cooperation with INCOIS, the RegPoint system for tsunami warnings now can be used in 17 countries, including the Indian Ocean rim countries, Australia and Indonesia.”

Improving medical treatments
RegPoint also develop mobile products aimed to help chronically ill people. “We connect doctors with patients to help the doctor manage the patient´s medical treatment and check that everything is working as planned. The mobile reminds the patient when it is time to take medication and when it is time to register other measurements, as for example bloodglucosa values. This way the doctor can monitor the patient remotely. Here we also work mainly in India”, concludes Ms. Salenius.

Indian Minister of State at the Awards Ceremony
RegPoint received the award at the annual Aegis Graham Bell Awards® Ceremony in New Delhi on October 25. Among the guest speakers at the ceremony were Dr. Kruparani Killi, Minister of State for Communications and Information Technology, Government of India and Marten Pieters, CEO of Vodafone.
