Gasgrid Finland and Rejlers sign significant agreement for maintenance and development of methane transmission network

Gasgrid Finland and Rejlers have entered a significant framework agreement to support the engineering and project services of the methane transmission network. A reliable transfer network plays a significant role in the clean energy transition and in supporting Finnish energy security and supply reliability.

Gasgrid Finland, a key player in safe and efficient gas transmission, actively invests in improving both the gas market and the Finnish energy system. The new partnership with Rejlers will cover essential areas such as planning new pipeline routes, conducting maintenance, and expanding the network to accommodate new producers and users.

“The newly signed agreement for the development of the transfer network is part of our long-term and comprehensive network development efforts. We are striving step by step towards a clean and sustainable energy system. Our collaboration with Rejlers aims to ensure that the methane transfer network serves current and future needs safely, reliably, and efficiently, and enables new producers and users to connect to our transfer network,” says Janne Grönlund, Director at Gasgrid.

An evolving methane transfer network will play a central role in the clean energy transition, enabling the transport of biogas and, eventually, synthetic methane. Synthetic methane is produced using renewable energy and captured carbon dioxide. It also supports the development of the hydrogen economy, as the energy from green hydrogen can be stored in the form of synthetic methane. Synthetic methane can be transported through the existing methane transfer network, accelerating the transition towards a more sustainable energy system.

Rejlers extensive experience in natural gas projects, combined with its expertise in engineering and project management, made it the preferred partner in Gasgrid’s competitive selection process.

"A reliable methane transmission network is a valuable part of Finland's energy system. It is great to be able to design solutions together with Gasgrid that ensure the network's operational and supply reliability in the future," says Kari Kanninen, Vice President, responsible for circular economy and renewable raw materials projects at Rejlers.
