Rejlers helps Skurup municipality increase its energy efficiency

Rejlers has signed an agreement with Skurup Municipality, Skurup Kommunal AB and Skurupshem AB to make sustainable efficiency improvements and upgrade the municipality's property portfolio. The project will contribute to reduced energy consumption, lower costs and an improved indoor environment for the municipality’s properties, which have a total area of approximately 200,000 m2 . The goal is that the energy savings resulting from the project will finance the modernisation of the properties.

The agreement between Rejlers and Skurup Municipality is a type of energy service project known as an EPC (Energy Performance Contract) project, in which the focus is on analysis, implementation, and follow-up measures that modernise and upgrade the entire property portfolio while simultaneously saving energy and lowering costs. Rejlers has extensive experience with this concept. Skurup Municipality’s property portfolio consists of schools, kindergartens, leisure facilities, sheltered housing, sports halls and residential properties.

The concept of EPC means that Rejlers guarantees a lower energy consumption in the property portfolio once measures have been implemented, and that the investment cost is covered by the resulting future savings in energy and maintenance costs. Over the next five years, Skurup Municipality plans to invest a total of approximately SEK 150 million in the upgrading of the properties.

“In addition to the advantage that the project will essentially ‘pay for itself’, the aim is that it will also enhance and develop our entire business, with extensive participation from our entire operating organisation. We will heavily emphasise joint efforts to improve the buildings and technical installations, which also creates better conditions for us to achieve the municipality's environmental goals in a cost-effective way,” says Pierre Esbjörnsson, CEO of Skurupshem AB.

“We are happy that Skurups Municipality has entrusted us with this effort, and look forward to starting our collaboration to achieve the sustainable streamlining and modernisation of their property portfolio,” says Per Sjöbom, CEO of Rejlers Energiprojekt AB.

The design and analysis phase, which will be a collaborative effort, will begin in 2020. Thereafter, Skurup Municipality will have the opportunity to proceed with the implementation of the proposed measures. Rejlers has extensive expertise in energy service projects, and has worked on similar projects with a number of other municipal organisations, including Karlshamnbostäder and Region Gotland.
