Italian foodservice analysed to 2016 in new market research report

The report “Italian Foodservice: The Future of Foodservice to 2016” states that within the foodservice industry, the profit sector accounted for an 83.0% share of the total foodservice sales in 2011 and registered a sales growth of CAGR 1.07% during the review period. In 2011, the cost sector of the foodservice industry represented 17.0% of total foodservice sales and registered a CAGR of 1.74% during the review period (reference see graph below). Restaurants were the largest contributor to total foodservice sales in the country, with a share of 61.4% in 2011. The largest channel in the cost sector was education foodservices, which contributed 56.8% of total cost sector sales.

The inflation at consumer prices has been low in the country from 2006 onwards, not exceeding 3.5%, but the rate is expected to decline in the forecast period. Inflation is expected to hover around 1.8% to 2% during the forecast period. Unemployment is expected to decline from 8.2% in 2011 to 7.8% during 2016. The decline in inflation and unemployment are expected to have a positive impact on consumer confidence and out of home food expenditure in the country.
