CHANTILLY ARTS & ELEGANCE RICHARD MILLE: A RESOUNDING SUCCESS FOR THE 1ST EDITON!
The weekend started Saturday 6th of September with a fabulous gala dinner in the Chantilly horse museum with the prestigious presence of Richard Mille friends, Natalie Portman and her husband Benjamin Millepied, newly appointed Director of the Opera de Paris. They joined over 500 guests to celebrate the rebirth of the concours d‘elegance in the fabulous setting of the Chantilly Chateau and the beautiful gardens designed by Le Notre.
Nearly 10.000 people gathered in the Sunday sunshine at the Château de Chantilly. The stunning gardens provided the perfect bucolic setting in which to celebrate art and elegance with Richard Mille. This first edition of the Chantilly Arts & Elegance Richard Mille has already earned itself a place among the cream of elegant car competitions. By ingeniously combining the expertise and culture symbolic of great French traditions with the world of automotive design, Chantilly Arts & Elegance Richard Mille has taken a French institution that died out in the 1930s and brought it back into vogue.
On Sunday, the task before the jury of around 40 renowned experts was to adjudicate three car competitions:
- The Concours d’Elegance juxtaposed the world of Haute Couture with the estheticism of concept cars. Eleven fashion models dressed by as many Haute Couture designers walked alongside eleven concept cars from international manufacturers, including three world premieres: the Aston Martin Zagato Shooting Brake 2014, the DS Divine and the Peugeot Exalt (French version). McLaren also chose Chantilly Arts & Elegance Richard Mille as the setting for an exclusive European presentation of the McLaren P1 GTR, a 1000hp supercar reserved exclusively for the race track.
The Richard Mille Concours d’Elegance prize was won by the Alfa Romeo Disco Volante, a concept car designed by Touring and based on the Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione.
- The condition, restoration and historic interest of a hundred cars came under scrutiny in the Concours d’Etat. The Richard Mille Best of Show prize went to an extraordinary 1937 Delahaye 135M cabriolet, honored for its ultra-sleek lines designed by Figoni et Falaschi, the celebrated pre-war bodywork manufacturers.
- The Concours des Clubs featured almost 500 cars, judged not only in terms of their presentation and the quality of their restoration, but also the way they were presented during the traditional lunch on the lawn. The Delahaye Club, whose appearance delighted visitors, picked up the Goyard prize for the quality of display.
With the extremely rare Bugatti Royale Coupé Napoleon 1930 taking pride of place, the chateau grounds provided an exceptional setting for the riveted aluminum sculptures of Emmanuel Chapalain. The day was also enlivened with a number of events, from a presentation of French gourmet cuisine to an exhibition of exceptional leather goods. The Chateau de Chantilly was also open to the public, who enjoyed both the guided tours of the rooms organized specially for the occasion and the chance to admire the superb gardens, whether from the sky in a hot air balloon or aboard steamers on the canals.
The magnificent Jeu de Paume room of the famous Condé museum hosted the exhibition Fra Angelico, Botticelli… Chefs-d’oeuvre retrouvés. The original approach of the exhibition, supported by Richard Mille, lay in its reassembling of polyptychs scattered throughout the world, thus offering a genuine panorama of the Quattrocento paintings and drawings of Florence and Siena.
The many workshops and displays celebrating French expertise and lifestyle were a huge hit with spectators, thrilled at the chance to combine their passion for cars with such elegance and refinement.

The second Chantilly Arts & Elegance Richard Mille is already scheduled for the first Sunday of September 2015 at the Château de Chantilly. A host of new mechanical surprises await!

CHANTILLY ARTS & ELEGANCE RICHARD MILLE: SUCCES CONFIRME POUR CETTE PREMIERE EDITION
C’est en présence de deux amis de Richard Mille, l’actrice hollywoodienne Natalie Portman et son mari Benjamin Millepied, récemment nommé directeur de l’Opéra de Paris, qu’a été inaugurée la première édition du Chantilly Arts & Elégance Richard Mille, lors d’un somptueux dîner de gala, donné le samedi 6 septembre dans les Grandes Ecuries du Château de Chantilly.
En ce dimanche ensoleillé, près de 10 000 personnes se sont donné rendez-vous au Château de Chantilly, dans les jardins dessinés par Le Nôtre, pour célébrer avec Richard Mille l’Art et l’Elégance dans un cadre bucolique.
Chantilly Arts & Elégance Richard Mille rejoint déjà le nombre limité des très prisés concours d’élégance d’exception. Associant habilement le savoir-faire et la culture emblématiques de la tradition française avec l’univers du design automobile, Chantilly Arts & Elégance Richard Mille a remis au goût du jour une institution française disparue depuis les années 30.
Un jury d’une quarantaine d’experts réputés a eu à se prononcer lors de trois concours automobile organisés durant cette journée :
- Le Concours d’Elégance associait les Maisons de Couture à l’esthétisme des concept cars. Onze mannequins habillés par autant de Maisons de Couture ont ainsi défilé dans onze concept cars de constructeurs internationaux. Trois premières mondiales étaient à l’honneur : Aston Martin Zagato Shooting Brake 2014, DS Divine et Peugeot Exalt (version française). McLaren a également offert au Chantilly Arts & Elégance Richard Mille l’exclusivité de la présentation européenne de la McLaren P1 GTR, une supercar de 1000cv exclusivement réservée à la piste.
Le prix Richard Mille « Concours d’Elégance » a été décerné à l’Alfa Romeo Disco Volante, un concept car dessiné par Touring sur une base d’Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione.
- Cent voitures étaient jugées sur leur conservation, leur restauration et leur intérêt historique lors du Concours d’Etat. Le prix Richard Mille « Best of show » est revenu à une extraordinaire Delahaye 135M cabriolet de 1937, récompensée pour la pureté de ses lignes dues à Figoni et Falaschi, carrossier de renom d’avant-guerre.
- Le Concours des Clubs a réuni quant à lui près de 500 voitures, jugées elles aussi sur leur présentation, leur qualité de restauration mais également sur leur mise en scène dans le cadre du traditionnel déjeuner sur l’herbe. Le club Delahaye, qui a ravi les visiteurs par sa prestation, s’est vu décerner le prix Goyard pour la qualité de la présentation.
Le parc du Château a offert un écrin somptueux à l’unique Bugatti Royale Coupé Napoléon 1930 et aux sculptures en aluminium riveté d’Emmanuel Chapalain. Il a également accueilli de nombreuses animations : de la découverte de la gastronomie française à l’exposition de la maroquinerie d’exception. Le château de Chantilly était ouvert au public qui a pu profiter de visites guidées des appartements spécialement organisées pour l’occasion et admirer ses jardins grandioses, parfois même depuis le ciel, à bord d’une montgolfière, ou au fil de l’eau, sur un bateau à vapeur.
La magnifique salle du Jeu de Paume du célèbre musée Condé accueillait l’exposition « Fra Angelico, Botticelli… Chefs-d’oeuvre retrouvés ». L’approche originale de l’exposition soutenue par Richard Mille résidait dans la reconstitution de polyptyques dispersés de par le monde et donnant lieu à la présentation d’une véritable histoire de la peinture et du dessin florentins et siennois du Quattrocento.
Ces nombreux ateliers et découvertes célébrant l’art de vivre et le savoir-faire à la française ont recueilli un large succès auprès des spectateurs, comblés dans leur désir de vivre avec élégance et subtilité leur passion automobile.
La maison Richard Mille et Peter Auto sont heureux d’associer leurs noms à ce sublime événement qui s’impose avec succès sur la scène automobile française et européenne. Rendez-vous est déjà pris le premier dimanche de septembre 2015 au Château de Chantilly pour la deuxième édition du Chantilly Arts & Elégance Richard Mille qui promet dès à présent bien d’autres nouvelles surprises mécaniques.
