RICHARD MILLE SUPPORTS “BUBBA & FRIENDS DRIVE TO A MILLION”
Richard Mille has always been involved in charities, including Action Innocence chaired by Valérie Wertheimer, which helps preserve the dignity and integrity of children on the Internet, Jackie Chan’s Dragon’s Heart Foundation, which supports children living in remote areas, Only Watch, which raises funds for research into Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, the Rafa Nadal Foundation, which provides new opportunities for socially disadvantaged young people, and Sentebale, a charity founded by His Royal Highness Prince Harry of Wales to support orphans and vulnerable children in Lesotho and most recently Yohan Blake and his very active YBafraid Foundation in aiding Jamaican children.
Now Richard Mille has decided to support the work of his friend and partner Bubba Watson. A member of the “RM Family” since 2011, the American golfer initiated the “Bubba & Friends drive to a Million” objective. From the beginning of 2012, he has encouraged his fans, friends and partners to get involved in their local charities. Setting an example through his website http://www.bubbawatsongolf.com he aims to raise $1 million to support the various charities that are close to his heart. Bubba Watson will himself donate a substantial amount at the end of the year and through the year he has auctioned several of his own possessions on eBay.
The considerable sum of $790,470 has already been raised, but there is still a way to go if the desired and necessary amount is to be achieved. This is why Richard Mille chose to lend his support, touched by Bubba’s initiative and by the energy with which he defends such worthwhile causes. To do this, he decided to create the Tourbillon RM 038 Bubba Watson Victory Watch - such an apt name! – released in a limited edition of four timepieces. 10% of the proceeds of these watches will go to the “Bubba & Friends drive to a Million”, while the fourth will be worn by Bubba Watson as a reminder of his magnificent victory in Augusta last April. This golf tournament, one of the most prestigious in the world, catapulted Bubba to the highest step on the podium and secured him the first major title of his career. As in all his other tournaments since becoming a Richard Mille partner, Bubba wore his RM 038 wristwatch during the competition. This ultra-technical, exceptionally high-performance watch is capable of withstanding extreme golfing conditions thanks to three major specifications: it is lightweight, shock-resistant and extremely comfortable. In subtle reference to Bubba’s triumph, the four RM 038 Bubba Watson Victory Watches are embellished with a green flange and each is engraved on the rear sapphire glass with Bubba’s signature.

The RM 038 contains a skeletonised, manually wound, tourbillon caliber. The baseplate, bridges and balance cock are made of grade 5 titanium, giving the whole assembly great rigidity as well as exemplary surface flatness. The fast rotating barrel enables periodic internal mainspring adhesion to be considerably reduced and its performance enhanced. The case is crafted from an extremely robust and lightweight alloy called magnesium WE 54, which has undergone an electro-plasma oxidation treatment called Miarox®, thus improving the metal’s durability and, in consequence, its resistance.
