BANNER Business Services has been shortlisted in conjunction with HMRC, for a National GO Award for its work with HMRC in developing a process to deliver 100 per cent Closed Loop recycled paper.

The initiative has proved so successful it is now mandated for roll-out across the whole of Central Government. Since being launched in January 2010, over a billion sheets of ‘Closed Loop’ paper have been produced.

Now in their tenth year, the GO Awards are acknowledged as being the benchmark by which excellence in public sector procurement is recognised and rewarded.

The awards are hotly contested and draw entries from a wide range of organisations including private sector suppliers and public sector departments.

Banner’s entry into the sustainability category outlined details of how its Closed Loop solution sees HMRC waste paper collected and securely shredded before being transported to a paper mill. There it is segregated from other waste and used to manufacture new recycled paper for resale back to Closed Loop customers.

Banner Managing Director Richard Costin said:

“The Awards provide the perfect showcase for the most exciting initiatives and innovations. We’ve been told that the standard is particularly high this year.

“Naturally, we’d love to win but just being a finalist is a real achievement.

“We’re very proud of our work with HMRC.  We have created something that provides great value for money and with clear environmental benefits.”

Commenting on this year’s GO Awards, John Collington, Chief Procurement Officer, Efficiency and Reform Group, Cabinet Office and member of the judging panel, said:

“They have become the foremost recognition of best practice and innovation within public procurement, recognising the achievements of all parties in the delivery of effective and value for money public services.”

Short-listed entrants will be presented with Finalist Certificates at 3.45pm on 13 March at Procurex National 2012, which is taking place at the NEC Birmingham.

Winners will be announced later on the same day at an evening ceremony taking place at the Birmingham Metropole Hotel.
