Boob job’ compensation to cost millions

The PIP breast implant debacle could cost the NHS and insurance industry millions of pounds, say clinical negligence legal experts.

Mark Slater of law firm Price & Slater, is already advising more than a dozen British women in cases where plastic surgery has gone wrong.

“Women who have been affected should not only be compensated for removing and replacing the breast implants but also rehabilitation and counselling following the trauma. I expect the total bill to run into millions of pounds if each procedure will cost an average of £20,000 to put right.

“The question over who should foot the bill is one that we’re looking at closely. Each case will be different and it will either be the individual surgeon, private clinic, NHS is the case of reconstructive surgery or even the Government who authorised the use of Poly Implant Prothese (PIP). Pile-it-high sell-it-cheap surgery is a real menace and this sharp business practice is as much to blame as the French company using dodgy silicone to sell it cheap to vulnerable people.”
