Highways maintenance expert available to comment on DfT Pothole Review

The Department of Transport has commissioned a report looking into the UK’s growing pothole problem (http://assets.dft.gov.uk/publications/pothole-review/pothole-review.pdf).

Our winters are getting harsher and this has had a significant impact on our roads and footpaths. The Government last year had to provide an extra £200 million, on top of the committed £3 billion for the next four years, to local highways authorities to boost road maintenance budgets.

Research has shown there are at least 1.5 million potholes in the UK, resulting in an estimated cost of £320 million to motorists per year.

A new preventative approach to highway maintenance planning is needed and the Pothole Review provides 17 key recommendations.

Peter Shone, managing director of national construction and engineering services contractor JPCS, has more than 15 years’ maintaining the highways and byways across the UK.

Peter can comment on:

  • The DfT Pothole Review and its recommendations
  • The UKs pothole epidemic
  • New approaches to the repair and maintenance of potholes
  • The true cost of potholes to local authorities maintenance budgets
  • Highways maintenance in the UK

He’s a very sound spokesperson – articulate, bright and reliable.
