Alopecia in the press following Joanna Rowsell’s podium photo

British cycling champion Joanna Rowsell has become an inspiration to alopecia sufferers across the UK when she took to the winner’s podium at the cycling world championships this weekend without her wig.

Joanna has suffered from alopecia areata since she was 10 years old and for the past 13 years she has lost and regained her hair three times.

She often wears a brown wig at sporting events but decided to celebrate winning the individual pursuit and women’s team pursuit without covering her head. This has made her an overnight poster girl and inspiration to fellow alopecia sufferers. She has shared with the press how alopecia has spurred her one to be even more focused and successful in her cycling career.

If you are planning to cover alopecia areata, female hair loss expert Lucas Sojka is available for specialist comment.

Lucas is the founder of non-surgical hair integration provider, Hair Solved (www.hair-solved.com) and can comment on:

-          What is alopecia areata?

-          How long can it last?

-          What factors can trigger alopecia areata

-          How to combat hair loss

-          Breaking the vicious hair loss circle

-          Non-surgical hair integration
