An online poll has revealed perfumes with warm, spicy aromas are found most sensual. Experts say this is because they lead to increased perspiration and the production of pheromones, causing sexual attraction. A variety of spicy essential oils used in fragrances are well known aphrodisiacs. Lavender, patchouli, cedar wood, jasmine and ylang ylang are all said to increase libido and sexual energy.

Cleopatra was said to use fragrance and opiates to seduce men.
