ROOFING RACERS ON COURSE TO BREAK CHARITY RECORD AFTER TRIATHLON SUCCESS
Whilst an enormous sense of pride and triumph followed the outstanding efforts of the much-loved Roofing Racers team in the Virgin Active London Triathlon last weekend, an even greater sense of achievement came from the team’s efforts in helping to raise record-breaking sponsorship pledges for Macmillan Cancer Support, and Great Ormond Street Hospital charities.
After the gruelling challenge of a 750m swim in the River Thames followed by a cycle of 20km and a 5km sprint to the finish line, the gallant Roofing Racers completed this iconic event not only in style, but with outstanding individual and team performances.
Marketing Manager for Roofing Racers, Stuart Base comments: “Congratulations to everyone who competed in this year’s event and thanks to all their fantastic supporters who helped made the occasion even more special. As a result of such supreme efforts, we are now on course to smash last year’s sponsorship record of £80,000, although more is urgently required if we are to achieve our ambitious target of £100,000.
He explains: “Roofing Racers is proud of its support for both charities over the years, and it is especially gratifying to know that Great Ormond Street Hospital is already benefiting from a new Neurosciences Centre thanks to our ‘Raising the Roof’ scheme.”
Stuart adds: “Ongoing donations to GOSH will now help raise the necessary funding to complete a new Children’s Medical Centre which will provide modern facilities for all inpatients, enabling parent or carer to stay comfortably by a child’s bedside. So, please, please keep the donations rolling in – we recognise that lots of people have to tighten their belts in the current economic climate but the hospital does fantastic work for sick children, and the Macmillan Nurses are a great help to millions in their time of most need, so please try to dig deep and remember that every single penny really counts.”
Whilst every athlete was, of course, a winner at the Triathlon, special credit was extended to the following Roofing Racers who gave outstanding performances. Bernie Fyans became Roofing Racers’ Fastest Individual Man - achieving an impressive time of 01:19:03 - the fastest individual woman was Emma Rowlinson with 01:30:32. Meanwhile, Gary Sutton, Britton Stewart and Katie Birchall represented the fastest Roofing Racers’ team with an extraordinary time of 01:17:23.
After the event, more than 300 friends, family and colleagues of the Roofing Racers team attended the Tower Hotel, London to celebrate their achievements. There was a fun “spoofs” awards ceremony, great food, and a live band: a great time was had by all.

Stuart concludes: “Our thanks must also go to the many other generous sponsors who helped make this event possible. These include; Floplast, ALM, Briggs Amasco, Forticrete, IKO, John Brash Timber, Klober, Marley Eternit, NFRC, The Masco Group and SR Timber.”
