ENVIRONMENTAL STUDY CONFIRMS LIMITED POLLUTANTS AT UTANSJÖ MILL

Report this content

An in-depth preliminary study of pollutants in the soil at Utansjö Mill submitted to the County Administrative Board of Västernorrland by the Rottneros Group confirms the presence of limited pollutants. Operations at the mill, which produced paper pulp, ceased at the end of May/start of June 2008.

The study also shows that no timber impregnation has occurred and that the company had not used any mercury preparations to conserve pulp or any chlorine for bleaching in connection with pulp production on the industrial site, in contrast to the situation in the most widely discussed and costly clean-up programmes within the forest industry.

The study, which was carried out at the request of the County Administrative Board, shows that the relatively limited pollutants that may be subject to measures occurred almost exclusively before 1991, when Rottneros acquired the mill.
