Ruukki receives FM certification for sandwich panels manufactured at its Alajärvi plant

Ruukki Construction, part of SSAB and a leading supplier of sustainable steel-based building products, has received the international FM Approvals certification for its mineral wool insulated sandwich panels manufactured at its Alajärvi plant in Finland. This certification is a significant recognition of the panels' high fire safety and structural durability, enabling their use in the most demanding building projects worldwide.
“FM certification (Factory Mutual Approvals) is one of the most highly respected safety certifications in the construction industry. Obtaining it requires a rigorous testing program in the United States, where materials are assessed for their ability to withstand real-world threats such as fire, mechanical stress and extreme weather conditions,” says Esa Lehtimäki, Portfolio Manager, Building Envelopes Finland, Ruukki.
The panels manufactured at Ruukki’s Alajärvi plant have received the broadest possible approval: they can be used both indoors and outdoors without restrictions, for example regarding the height of the building. The exterior wall panels are also designed to span longer distances and withstand higher wind loads than standard panels, offering greater design freedom and cost-efficiency—especially in industrial and logistics construction.

FM-certified building materials also support the requirements of insurance companies and can help reduce property insurance risks. The validity of the certification is maintained through regular factory audits.
The new certification will be published on Ruukki Construction’s website and marketing channels during summer 2025. Product packaging will be updated with markings indicating the certification.
