Monica Caneman responsible for SEB's Baltic venture. Monica Caneman, Head of (Retail) Financial Services, will also be responsible for the Group's venture in the Baltic region. Furthermore, she will be responsible for SEB's strategic planning and co-ordination of operations in the Nordic countries. At the 1999 Annual General Meeting, Monica Caneman will be proposed as Deputy CEO in accordance with the Group's present rotation system. Mats Kjaer, formerly Head of Retail's Southern Region, will take over the operative responsibility for development of the Group's activities in the Baltic region. Mats will report to Monica Caneman. A new head of the Southern Region will be appointed soon. During November, Skandinaviska Enskilda Banken became part-owner of three banks in the Baltic region and acquired the following: 32 per cent of the shares of Eesti Uhispank (Estonia) 36 per cent of the shares of Latvijas Unibanka (Latvia) 32 per cent of the shares of Vilniaus Bankas (Lithuania) The total investment amounts to SEK 1,200 million. The three Baltic banks has a total of 3,700 employees and 181 branch offices. The market shares as regards loan/deposit operations is between 25-35 per cent in each of the countries.
