Cheshire Police Chooses SAFE Platform As Unified Control Room Solution

Report this content

Defence and security company Saab has signed a contract with Cheshire Police to provide their unified control room solution. The placement of this 10 year contract forms part of a forward-looking procurement framework created by the Cheshire constabulary. In addition, a framework agreement is signed in which 16 additional British local police can purchase the system directly from Saab. The framework agreement thus opens up opportunities for the wider adoption of this industry leading solution.

Saab’s SAFE platform will replace several of Cheshire’s legacy systems with a single cost effective solution. With its multi-role capability and intuitive workflow-driven user interface, SAFE will be employed extensively throughout the police force for all public contact including 999 and 101 calls, incident management, communications management and resource deployment.

“Saab has a long history of working with our emergency services and we are immensely proud to bring the innovations and capabilities of SAFE to the UK. SAFE is a truly unified solution and is in live operation in over 30 mission-critical control rooms around the world. We see the ability to integrate multiple communications systems and diverse intelligence sources, plus the sharing of data with partner agencies, as pivotal in the provision of a modern service. SAFE has been built from the ground up to meet these challenges head on,” says Simon Read, Saab’s Director of Public Safety Solutions

“This win for SAFE is another important step in our strategy to establish a strong presence in a new market” said Richard Price, Head of the Business Unit Critical System and Communication Solutions.

Cheshire Police is the first UK force to make the transition from the traditional multi-system approach and unite control of the current Airwave communications network and future LTE-based ESN (Emergency Services Network) with resource, contact and incident management in a single system.

“This is the culmination of a detailed evaluation of our current and future policing needs.  By bringing together several systems we will not only reduce costs and see improved efficiency, but will also be in a position to make significantly better use of data and ultimately deliver a better service to the public”, says John Dwyer, Police & Crime Commissioner for Cheshire.

The delivery of SAFE commences immediately and the initial roll-out continues through 2016.

SAFE combines all the functions required of a modern mission-critical control room into a single software application; including multi-channel communications, contact management, command and control, radio dispatch, mapping and resource management. SAFE is a modular platform with a unified, intuitive and workflow-based user interface which is highly configurable and can be deployed on fixed, web and mobile clients.

List of other UK Police forces named in the framework contract:
