Saab Strengthens Telecommunications In Sweden's Electrical Grid
Defence and security company Saab has signed a framework agreement with the Swedish electricity supply authority, Svenska kraftnät, to deliver equipment and services for the upgrade and expansion of the authority´s telecommunications network.
Saab will provide equipment and services for Svenska kraftnät´s nationwide telecommunications network. The network uses optical fibres and is incorporated in Sweden´s national grid power lines. The agreement covers the period 2016 to 2019, with an option for a further three years.
Saab will deliver new communications equipment including transmission equipment to enable broadband communication in the optical fibre network. Saab will also provide planning, pre-installation and functional verification, installation and initialisation of the communications equipment, documentation and technical support.
"With the new communications equipment supplied by Saab, Svenska kraftnät can continue to operate, control and monitor Sweden's electrical grid. Saab has been involved in the development of the network since 1997 and has amassed solid experience to satisfy the networks´ high demands for availability and security” says Jonas Hjelm, head of Saab business area Support and Services.
Saab has had Svenska kraftnät as a customer since 1997 and has been responsible for installations, operational start-ups, documentation and support in various projects concerning telecommunications and data communications equipment for electrical power in the national grid.
