SAB WABCO SIGNS 8.5 MILLION EURO CONTRACT WITH SIEMENS TRANSPORTATION SYSTEMS (TS) FOR METRO KAOHSIUNG IN TAIWAN Malmö, Sweden 15 March, 2004 - SAB WABCO has signed a contract with Siemens TS in Austria for the supply of brake and coupler systems for 42 three-car trains for the Kaohsiung Rapid Transit Corporation (KRTC). The order includes engineering and production of complete brake and coupler systems. This contract amounts to approximately 8.5 million euros. Shipments of the first phase of production are scheduled for late 2004. The new metro, which will serve more than 1.4 million Kaohsiung inhabitants, is expected to be operational during the second half of 2007. For SAB WABCO, the order includes delivery of a complete brake system with complete brake control, air generation and bogie brake parts. SAB WABCO will also supply complete automatic and semi-permanent coupler systems, including its PROPACT® type automatic coupler. This is the first application of PROPACT® in an Asian metro project. The equipment will be produced in Italy, France and Germany and initial delivery is scheduled for late 2004. The choice by Siemens TS of SAB WABCO's new technologies lays the groundwork for future supply of Siemens TS metro vehicles. Final delivery is planned for 2007. The city has planned its own new metro project, which includes the 28.3 km long Red Line and the 14.4 km long Orange Line. The Red Line will serve 23 planned stations along a north-south route. The Orange Line, with 14 planned stations, will run from east to west.
