The Norwegian Redningsselskapet has chosen to equip its environmentally friendly and state-of-the-art rescue boat RS175 "Smart Saver" with the E-SafeRunner, designed with Safe at Sea's fully electric and emission-free drivetrain ElEcoDrive™.

The E-SafeRunner will be delivered with a custom-made system for transport and launch and recovery, that will be installed on board the “Smart Saver”.

In September 2021, work began on building the new rescue boat, which is a further development of the "Staff-class" for Redningsselskapet. The Rescue boat is donated by the Tom Wilhelmsen Foundation, and differs from the rest of the Redningsselskapet's fleet, as it is built with Volvo Penta D8 engines with SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) installed for NOx cleaning.

After an extensive development period, the rescue boat is now in production. The Rescue boat, named "Smart Saver", will run on the environmentally friendly fuel HVO and has technology with an HMI (Human Machine Interface), which helps the crew to increase mental capacity to focus on the main task, saving life and equipment. The E-SafeRunner will be integrated as a Daughter Craft on board the "Smart Saver", and with its all-electric powertrain contribute to the project's goal of reduced environmental impact. The ambition of the "Smart Saver" project was a zero-emission rescue boat, based on an extended version of Hydrolift's P-42 platform.

After thorough analysis and preparations, it was clear that, in order to deliver a credible solution, with an operational rescue boat, with requirements for a top speed of over 30 knots and sufficient range to be able to go on missions on short notice, in all types of weather conditions, Redningsselskapet concluded that "Common Rail" diesel engines with SCR and HVO-100 as fuel, was the best solution within the established time frame of the project.

ElEcoDrive™ - An all-electric powertrain available for all boat models built by Safe at Sea.

ElEcoDrive™ has been developed in cooperation with the Swedish Sea Rescue Society (SSRS) as well as Chalmers TH, Chalmers Industriteknik, Kan Marine Marketing AB and ETP Kraftelektronik AB. The first boat with ElEcoDrive™ was a ElEcoRunner delivered to the Swedish Sea Rescue Society on October 19, 2022.

"We are very happy that we have received the trust of Redningsselskapet to deliver the first E-SafeRunner and to be involved in their very important development of rescue solutions that include environmental- and sustainability aspects", says Henrik Hartman, CEO of Safe at Sea AB (publ).

The E-SafeRunner will be delivered in Q3 2023.

Order value of the E-SafeRunner with Stern Rescue Cradle is approximately SEK 1 225 000,00.
