You can hardly call it peanuts when SAGA Mink® makes the front page of the New York Post during fashion week in the big city. The stunning white mink coat will later be auctioned off to aid a helping-hand organization.

Saga Furs took the spotlight during New York Fashion Week after a white SAGA Mink® coat, designed by Jeremy Scott and featuring Snoopy, the comic strip pooch from Peanuts, made a big splash. ”I was flabbergasted,” says Saga Furs director of North American operations Charles Ross. ”There it was, on the front page of the Post. Further down the line we will get additional exposure as the coat will be sold on eBay for charity.”

Metropolitan Life is one of the sponsors of 7th on Sixth, and the insurer has the exclusive rights to use the Peanuts characters. Selected designers were given a character and asked to create a piece for an event called Snoopy in Fashion, held in Bryant Park. Lucy, Charlie Brown, Linus, Peppermint Patty they were all on the runway after designers such as Pamella Roland, Betsey Johnson and lots of others had conjured up their creations.

Saga Furs provided the fur for international designer Jeremy Scott who chose Snoopy and came up with a whimsical white and black Saga Mink® coat with mink Snoopy dolls on the sleeves. The item was a hit when it was shown on the runway, then it hit the front page.

”Of course I was pleased the coat got such attention, but the important part of this project is yet to come,” says Ross. ”The coat will be auctioned off and the proceeds will go to the Dress for Success program.” The Corporate Social Responsibility program of Saga Furs encourages worldwide participation with important charitable organizations and events.

Dress for Success is a non-profit project aimed at helping women gain economic independence. The fashion industry has been aiding the project since it began 10 years ago. The program aids welfare recipients, long-term unemployed and former convicts who generally have a difficult time finding work. The name says it all, as Dress for Success provides people who are trying to return to the workforce with the proper clothing for job interviews and for the workplace.

”This is an excellent example of how the fur and fashion industry can do charitable deeds,” says Ross. ”And I’m confident the Snoopy coat will fetch a lot more than just peanuts.”
