Samsung microwave ovens now in Volvo Trucks Samsung Electronics is now supplying the first microwave ovens on the market developed specifically for trucks to Volvo Trucks. This is the result of development work lasting three years in Gothenburg and Korea in cooperation with Waeco, an international fridge-freezer group. Fridge-freezers have become standard features in trucks and now Volvo is introducing microwave ovens as an option in its latest truck models. The microwave oven has been developed to provide truck drivers with extra comfort and security. The demand for the driver's cab in trucks to be a second home is increasing because drivers spend long, continuous periods of time on the road. The microwave oven has passed tests measuring its ability to withstand vibration and collision and measuring electromagnetic radiation levels. High-impact crash tests equivalent to 20 G were carried out on the oven. The materials used in the manufacture of the ovens were selected so that these requirements could be met. The ovens also meet Volvo's EMC requirements and emit no electromagnetic radiation that can affect other electronic components in the truck. Waeco, which has been working closely with Volvo Trucks for ten years, first contacted Samsung three years ago. Waeco specialises, among other things, in mobile heating and refrigeration, and in 1992 it launched a fridge-freezer that was specially adapted for the driver's cab of a truck. The development of a microwave oven is a natural next step. Samsung Electronics Nordic has been responsible for coordinating the project with manufacturers in Korea and the development group in Gothenburg, and Samsung and Waeco have now started to deliver microwave ovens to Volvo Trucks.
