Lovers of Covers showcases both rare unseen artwork and classic rock album covers

WHO             

The graphic design team, Hipgnosis, created some of the most recognizable album covers in rock ‘n’ roll history.  The British design group consisted primarily of Storm Thorgerson, Aubrey “Po” Powell and Peter Christopherson through the 1960s and ‘70s. Storm remains an active artist today, running the design team StormStudios. Po now focuses on directing music related films and documentaries, and concerts.

 

WHAT                       

Storm and Po are leading a discussion and answering questions about their creative experiences with some of the most famous acts in rock.  This will take place at the San Francisco Art Exchange the day after Lovers of Covers’ opening night reception.

 

WHEN

WHY             

The Hipgnosis partners are in town from London to attend the opening night reception for Lovers of Covers on Saturday, August 14 7:00 – 10:00p.m. at SFAE (458 Geary st.).  Lovers of Covers features more than 60 works of art by Storm Thorgerson, including rare unseen pieces.  Clips from the feature film documentary, Eye Of The Storm: A Film About Storm Thorgerson, by director Roddy Bogawa will also be showing at the reception and throughout the exhibition.  To R.S.V.P. for the reception, e-mail info@sfae.com or call1-800-344-9633.  Lovers of Covers runs August 14 through September 15 at SFAE.  View the collection online.
