Santa Clara Valley Medical Center Convenes Third Annual Brain Injury Conference
SAN JOSE, Calif. —Brain injuries in sports, service veterans with head trauma, the role of technology in healing and rehabilitation – these will be discussed by nationally and internationally recognized leaders in brain injury and rehabilitation research at the 2013 Santa Clara Valley Brain Injury Conference, February 28 to March 2 in San Jose.
“The Santa Clara Valley Medical Center is thrilled to hold this event for the third year,” said Stephanie Kolakowsky-Hayner, conference chair and Director of the Rehabilitation Research Center at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center. “Conference participants will have a multitude of opportunities to network and learn about innovative advancements in brain injury research, advocacy, and treatment options.” The event will appeal to physicians, nurses, social workers, therapists, administrators, researchers, advocates, sports coaches, parents, individuals with brain injury, and family members/caregivers. “With brain injury impacting more than 1.7 million people per year in the US, most people have had or know someone who has had a brain injury and we could all learn from the talented faculty this conference brings together.”
2013 topics will include:
- New understandings of brain injury and plasticity
- Use of technology and other advances to improve outcomes
- Helping at-risk populations (soldiers, athletes, children)
- Addressing long term issues after brain injury
The conference is endorsed by the American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine, the Brain Injury Association of America, the Brain Injury Association of California, and the International Brain Injury Association.
