SAS Cargo closes down terminal in Norrköping, Sweden Smaller cargo volumes in the region combined with SAS' decision to stop flying to Norrköping are the main reasons for closing down the terminal, which has operated since 1964. Seven persons will be affected when the terminal operation comes to a stop on July 1st. - When SAS stopped flying to Norrköping in October 2002 Skyways took over the route using smaller airplanes, and they offer limited cargo capacity. This means we often have to truck larger consignments to Gothenburg or Stockholm instead, leaving even less cargo back in Norrköping, says terminal manager Lars Luttemo. Since 2000 cargo volume has dropped more than 30 percent and unfortunately, it is not profitable to continue an operation under these circumstances. Furthermore, due to the huge security investment program SAS Cargo has initiated, a continued operation in Norrköping would increase the costs of running the terminal and hence making it unprofitable. Both SAS Cargo and the public authorities have set-up increased demands for security and SAS Cargo's security program include, among other things, improved IT-systems, x-ray technology and video surveillance. The future of the seven persons at the terminal who will be affected by the closure is not clear yet, but plans are being made and SAS Cargo has decided to keep the sales person for the region around Norrköping, Göran Wiklund, to represent the company.
