SAS Cargo increases capacity from North America to Scandinavia SAS Cargo has signed contracts with Korean Air Cargo and WOW-alliance partner Singapore Airlines Cargo about cargo capacity onboard their freighters from North America to Scandinavia. The contracts are regarding Singapore Airline Cargo's flight from the O'hare airport in Chicago to Copenhagen every Friday and Korean Air Cargo's flight from John F. Kennedy Airport in New York to Oslo every Monday. Both routes are operated by Boeing 747F freighters. With these contracts SAS Cargo is increasing capacity from North America to Scandinavia with 64 tons per week. Friday, May 21st is the first flight from Chicago and Monday June 7th is the first flight from New York. - The new contracts will work as a supplement to our current belly capacity onboard SAS' aircrafts and they will provide us with capacity that enable us to accept cargo that does not hold the requirements regarding size and dimensions to enter passenger aircrafts. Furthermore, we have experienced increased cargo quantities from North America to Europe lately and we wish to be able to meet this increase, says President and CEO of SAS Cargo, Kenneth Marx. In the fall 2003 SAS Cargo signed a similar contract with Korean Air Cargo regarding capacity from New York to Copenhagen. With the two new contracts SAS Cargo have three weekly freighter departures from North America to Scandinavia. The use of all-cargo freighters opens up the possibility to transport large animals and cargo that does not fit into the belly of a passenger aircraft.
