SAS Cargo increases cargo capacity between Scandinavia and China When the winter flight schedule steps into action October 31st SAS will double the number of direct flights between Copenhagen and Shanghai. This means that SAS Cargo at the same time also will double the cargo capacity to and from one of the fastest growing production regions in the world right now. - SAS Cargo is working very focused on creating the necessary capacity on the markets where there is great demand and growth potential. And the southern part of China is one of these markets right now, says Kenneth Marx, Managing Director of SAS Cargo Group A/S. He adds that the new flight schedule will increase the freight capacity with about 60 tons each direction per week. - In the Guangzhou region, which is between Hong Kong in the South and Shanghai in the North production is growing very fast due to outsourcing and general globalization. Many companies in the world today are dependant of deliveries to/from the Guangzhou region. Therefore, the demand for transportation of goods between the area and the rest of the world is increasing at a very fast pace, says Kenneth Marx SAS Cargo's two weekly all-cargo freighters between Scandinavia and Hong Kong combined with the six and seven weekly Airbus 340 departures to Shanghai and Beijing, respectively, gives SAS Cargo the capacity to transport approximately 900 tons cargo per week between Scandinavia and China. In addition to the direct routes to China, SAS Cargo has also daily cargo capacity to Japan both onboard all-cargo aircrafts and passenger aircrafts. Furthermore, SAS Cargo is part of a global route network together with the WOW alliance partners from Lufthansa Cargo, Singapore Airlines Cargo and Japan Airlines Cargo. SAS Cargo SAS Cargo had a turnover in 2003 of 2.954 MSEK (325 MEUR) and has 1250 employees in Scandinavia and 130 outside Scandinavia.
