SAS Cargo increases cargo capacity on freighters from North America November 5th SAS Cargo introduces the cooperation with Korean Air Cargo regarding cargo capacity onboard a new freighter route from Chicago to Oslo. - This is a good contract, which we are satisfied with. Especially our customers from the oil industry will be able to take advantage of this end-of-the-week departure from Chicago, because the receivers can have the equipment onboard the oilrigs in the North Sea at the beginning of the following week. This has been a great wish from the customers, says Kenneth Marx, Managing Director of SAS Cargo Group. The contract with Korean Air Cargo is a "block space" agreement, where SAS Cargo buys a part of the cargo capacity onboard Korean Air Cargo's Boeing 747-400 freighter, which will have its weekly departure from Chicago on Wednesday nights. The route is new and goes all the way around the world stopping in Seoul, Chicago, Oslo and Seoul. SAS Cargo has bought 50 tons capacity on the route from Chicago to Oslo. First departure from Chicago will be Friday November 5th at 20.00 hours. SAS Cargo is currently cooperating with Korean Air Cargo regarding the two weekly freighters from New York (John F Kennedy airport) to Copenhagen and Oslo, respectively. SAS Cargo has also been cooperating with the WOW partner, Singapore Airlines Cargo regarding its freighter from Chicago to Copenhagen, but since this route will stop at the end of October, the new contract with Korean Air Cargo will be replacing some of the lost capacity on this route. With this new contract SAS Cargo has in total 150 tons cargo capacity onboard freighters from North America to Scandinavia. One of the advantages with all-cargo capacity is the ability to ship larger consignments such huge spare parts, cars, horses and other shipments that does not fit into the cargo compartment of a passenger aircraft.
