SAS Cargo wins new big contract with Swedish car manufacturer Quality, simplicity and trust were the keywords when Volvo Logistics AB decided to expand their cooperation with SAS Cargo in a new contract. For SAS Cargo this means an increase of the total tonnage of Volvo products to and from Japan of approximately 70 percent. - Volvo Logistics set up very high demands regarding quality, especially delivery precision is a main concern for them. SAS Cargo has won several quality awards and has over a longer period maintained a very high level of delivery precision. Once again I think our high quality is one of the reasons why a big company like Volvo Logistics chose SAS Cargo, says Ulf Strömbäck, Key Account Manager with SAS Cargo. Another advantage is the simple and direct route between Osaka and Gothenburg. - Direct flights are simple and simplicity is always desired, since it's a good foundation for reliability, says Johan Carlén, Contract Manager at Volvo Logistics AB. In 2002 Volvo Logistics, in cooperation with Kintetsu World Express, made a contract with SAS Cargo about transporting electronics and high value car-specific components with the freighter between Osaka and Gothenburg, where Volvo Logistics is situated. The newly signed agreement involves the route from Gothenburg to Japan and the cargo will mostly be spare parts. The contract will be running for two years. For this new contract Volvo Logistics has decided to cooperate with both Schenker International as the forwarding agent and SAS Cargo as the freight carrier, because Johan Carlén prefers a three-part dialogue and to involve the airline to make certain that needs and objectives are understood. - We like transparency and to know who answers to each link in the transport chain, says Johan Carlén, who has appointed SAS Cargo to be the responsible part for the transport between Volvo in Japan and Volvo in Gothenburg. Volvo Logistics supports the business areas in the Volvo Group, Volvo Car and within the Ford Group. Today, approximately 15 percent of Volvo Logistics transports are transported as airfreight. For the past 10 years SAS Cargo has been appointed the dedicated carrier for all Volvo airfreight from USA and the new contract show the result of a long cooperation based on trust, confidentiality - and the ability to maintain a high level of quality. SAS Cargo offers a service to and from Asia, with close to 40 non-stop flights every week. With the trans-Siberian routes from Scandinavia SAS Cargo are the fastest carrier to this region. SAS Cargo serves four key destinations in Asia with direct passenger flights. The network includes daily flights to Tokyo and 4 times per week to Bangkok / Singapore and Beijing. Passenger flights are complemented by all-cargo services to Hong Kong and Osaka, Japan, providing a total capacity to Asia of more than 500 tonnes per week.
