Approachable analytics now easy to build, deliver to management

A merger with VantageSouth Bank promised to position Yadkin Bank (NYSE: YDKN) as a premier community bank in North and South Carolina – if they could also merge the knowledge and experience from both firms. Yadkin used SAS® Visual Analytics to easily and quickly consolidate two separate systems into comprehensive reports, handing management timely, high-level analysis of the single business portfolio.

“It’s a pretty big deal,” said Campbell Rodgers, Director of Management Reporting and Forecasting at Yadkin Bank, explaining that the fusion of data following a merger can be challenging. “SAS helps us map merged data from two separate core banking systems. Then we can do anything we want with the analysis. The flexibility is amazing. I never worked with anything like it.”

As a long-time fan of SAS, Rodgers began using SAS Enterprise BI Server at VantageSouth Bank in 2012 when the existing platform proved limited for the types of information and analysis being requested by business units. “With SAS, we were able to build a comprehensive database, distribute automated reporting via online and email, and make tons of analytical and operational information available to analysts and business leaders,” said Rodgers. “Our sales executives and bankers simply have to log in to SAS each day or check email to see 90-plus percent of the data needed to manage their portfolios.”

SAS Visual Analytics has helped Rodgers’ team save time prepping reports and make information more digestible for business analysts. And the software’s superior report control and validation remains fast and easy for users. “Once I got my hands on it, I realized how powerful it was,” said Rodgers. “It’s a one-stop shop for reporting and analysis. We can build a report on the fly and then change the view to any organizational or hierarchy structure, and the formulas can change with those views. This type of flexibility is extremely powerful when exploring data or building reports.”

“We’re really only scratching the surface of what I believe we’ll be able to do with SAS Visual Analytics in a year or two. We’re also in process of updating our conference rooms to have the ability to display tablet information wirelessly so we can fully take advantage of that functionality. Whatever you can think of doing for reporting and analysis, you can accomplish with SAS.”
