New figures from leading money saving and discount voucher codes website Savoo.co.uk, in association with mySupermaket.com, has found the cost of a loaf of bread has increased 38 per cent since July 2008

For immediate release: London, 1st August, 2011; The research shows that in July 2008 a loaf of Kingsmill Great Everyday Thick Sliced Soft White Bread (800g), cost £0.90 in Tesco (£1 in Asda). The same product today would cost you £1.25 in all the leading supermarkets.

For a single loaf, the 35p increase may not sound like a lot, but when you consider that the average family of four eats around 118 loaves of bread each year, costing £147.50, the inflationary increase adds up to an extra £35 per year spent on bread, bringing the total to £182.50.

Commenting on the findings Ed Fleming, Head of PR and Partnerships at Savoo.co.uk says;

“Bread is a staple product in most households, particularly families, and as a product it is certainly not immune from the effects of inflation. Families go through an awful lot of bread each week and any increase in price is immediately felt. Our figures show that an average family of four can now expect to spend an extra £35 each year on bread alone.”

Keeping the cost of food shopping down is an increasingly important issue for money saving parents who are increasingly turning to online voucher codes and money saving websites in order to take advantage of great bargains and discounts.

Ed Fleming continued:

“Managing the family purse strings takes some considerable advance planning if you want to stick to a tight budget. But savvy money savers know to shop around for the best deals and keep an eye out for online offers. The savings if you follow this tactic can be significant and make a real difference.”
