Christina Dahlström awarded 2014 Alf de Ruvo scholarship
The 2014 Alf de Ruvo scholarship, worth SEK 500,000, has been awarded to Dr. Christina Dahlström for her fundamental study of coating uniformity in coated paper.
By using quantitative microscopy, the study revealed how certain fundamental mechanisms result in non-uniformities in coating layers. Her work has provided an important scientific understanding that will help in the development of new, functional surfaces of fiber-based materials, such as coated paper and fiberboard.
Christina Dahlström currently works in the Fibre Science and Communication Network (FSCN) at Mid Sweden University, which is studying fiber-based supercapacitators, where coating is a promising method for creating effective systems for energy storage. In October Dr. Dahlström will begin a six-month post-doctoral study.
“I hope to do my post-doc studies at Stanford University in California,” says Christina. “I think it would be very inspiring and rewarding to gain new experience from their research environment.”
Christina Dahlström was born in Sundsvall, Sweden, in 1977. She obtained her Master’s Degree in Engineering from the Royal Swedish Institute of Technology (KTH) in Stockholm and her Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering at Mid Sweden University in Sundsvall in 2012, with Professor Tetsu Uesaka as her supervisor.
The scholarship will be awarded today at a ceremony in Stockholm in conjunction with the Ekman Days conference sponsored by the Swedish Association of Pulp and Paper Engineers.
