Kaarlo Niskanen awarded 2010 Alf de Ruvo scholarship

The 2010 Alf de Ruvo scholarship has been awarded to Dr. Kaarlo Niskanen. He receives the scholarship, with a value of SEK 500,000, for the development of a textbook at postgraduate level in the field of paper physics.

Kaarlo Niskanen, 52, has received a scholarship from the Alf de Ruvo Memorial Foundation with a value of SEK 500,000. He has been awarded the scholarship for the development of a high-quality textbook at postgraduate level in the field of paper physics, and for studies of new areas of application for wood fibre-based materials. Dr. Niskanen is a Finnish citizen and lives together with his family in Helsinki, Finland. He has a solid background in innovative R&D and market-driven customer relations in the forest industry. Niskanen has held positions as President and Head of Research at the KCL research institute in Finland and has also worked as adjunct professor at the Helsinki University of Technology and Tampere University of Technology. He took his doctor’s degree in physics at Carnegie-Mellon University in Pittsburgh, USA, in 1984. The scholarship was awarded at a ceremony on 26 January 2010 in conjunction with the Swedish Pulp and Paper Industry’s Ekman Days in Stockholm.
