Scancem acquires Stråbruken from NCC Group Optiroc Group AB - parent company of Scancem's business area Masonry Products - on Monday reached an agreement with the NCC Group to acquire all shares outstanding in Stråbruken AB. Stråbruken produces brick, premix and other mineral-based products and is estimated to have sales of approximately SEK 300 M in 1997. The greater part of the turnover is sold in Sweden, but products are also exported to the other Nordic countries and the U.K. The production takes place at two brick works, four premix plants and a mining operation. - The two companies' combined competence gives us further possibilities to expand interna-tionally, says Optiroc Group's President Cornelis Altena. If you take into account the very low level of construction in Sweden and a stiffening international competition, a structural step like this is positive and secures both Optiroc's and Stråbruken's building materials production long-term. At the same time, Euroc Beton - parent company of Scancem's business area Concrete Products - acquires all shares outstanding in NCC Prefab AB. The company has two concrete element plants in southern Sweden, sales of approximately SEK 60 M and about 75 employees. Both acquisitions will be examined by the Swedish competition authority. The acquisitions have a marginal effect on Scancem's key ratios.
