Scancem forms ready-mix company in Germany with Heidelberger Zement The German ready-mixed concrete company ScanBeton, part of Scancem's business area Rudus Group, has formed a joint venture with Heidelberger Zement's ready- mix companies within Vulkan and Neuper Beton in the Land of Mecklenburg- Vorpommern. The new company - Transportbeton Industrie GmbH & Co. KG - will be owned 50/50 by Scancem and Heidelberger Zement. Transportbeton Industrie (TBI) becomes one of the major producers of ready- mixed concrete in northeastern Germany with an annual production capacity of approximately 350,000 cubic meters. Turnover in 1998 is expected to be around SEK 215 M with some 90 employees. The market for ready-mixed concrete is rather stable in this part of Germany because of major motorway projects. TBI has 19 ready-mix plants of which the most easterly is in Wismar, east of Lübeck, and the southernmost in Templin, 50 kilometers north of Berlin. Eleven of the plants are of ScanBeton origin. Parallel to the establishment of TBI, the jointly owned (50/50) MD Mörteldienst is formed with three plants for the production of wet mortar in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
