Scancem invests in global communications The building materials group Scancem will invest SEK 20-25 M in a new global communications structure - ScancemNet. The investment initially concerns the group's European operations, but long-term the idea is that ScancemNet will cover all Scancem companies worldwide. The structure will be implemented for some 2,000 users in the group's European operations in the summer of 1999. ScancemNet will be used for e-mail, document management, the group's intranet Sifon as well as for different business applications. Via ScancemNet the users will also be able to access to Internet and integrate with other external systems. "Today, communications are vital for our operations and the demands grow continually", comments Peter Svenburg, Scancem's IT President. "In the future it is necessary for us to create a cost-effective and common environment with built-in flexibility in order to be able to encounter coming changes in our operations. It is not efficient that single Scancem companies use time and resources on such a basic function as network communications. It must be handled coordinated at group level." The ScancemNet-project is directed by WM-data. The project will end in a group- comprehensive standardized environment - based on a NT server and an Exchange structure - that supplants the various solutions that different business areas have today. By standardization it will be possible to coordinate administration and development at group level. WM-data:s assignment includes a global inventory of Scancem's existing IT environments, design and test of the new IT structure and implementation and quality assurance of the installations at each workplace. "The ScancemNet project is a good example on how WM-data can support international companies' IT investments through our international network and our presence on the global market", says Stefan Andréasson, IT-Partner responsible in WM-data. ------------------------------------------------------------ Please visit http://www.bit.se for further information The following files are available for download: http://www.bit.se/bitonline/1998/09/01/19980901BIT00130/bit0001.doc http://www.bit.se/bitonline/1998/09/01/19980901BIT00130/bit0002.pdf
