A brand new Scandic Hotel in Helsinki On June 15th a brand new Scandic Hotel will open in the very city of Helsinki. The hotel has got the most central location close to the Kamppi terminal area and next to the bus station and the Forum shopping centre. "The new hotel offers in addition to its central location, not only a diverse alternative in accommodation for business and leisure travellers alike but also the best hotel accommodation in the city centre in terms of value for money" notes Business Area Manager, Aarne Hallama of Scandic Hotels. "The hotel further complements the services of Scandic Hotels in Helsinki. Scandic has 24 hotels in Finland, eight of which are located in the Helsinki Metropolitan Area. The hotel is a genuine "the new Millennium Scandic Hotel" based on the successful Scandic concept, which has made Scandic the leading hotel company in the Nordic region. The values that will be evident from the operations will be concern for the hotel guests , the staff and the environment. The hotel features 360 rooms, of which some have been designed especially for guests with physical disabilities and allergies, families or for representation purposes. Rooms facing the courtyard have a French balcony. The hotel has three suites and on the top floor, 12 rooms each having a sauna and terrace. There are seven conference rooms each accommodating 10-80 persons. With a splendid view, the Terrace Pavilion on the top floor is a unique venue for celebrations and conferences. On the entrance level the hotel's own restaurant, the Simonkatu Restaurant & Café, features a wide view over the bustle at the bus station and in the city centre. The hotel will also have a fitness room, three saunas for 10-20 persons each and a summer terrace in the courtyard. During the summer, approximately 5,000 m² of commercial premises adjoining the hotel and located amidst the busy flow of passers-by will be completed on two floors. There will be a tunnel linking the Forum shopping centre, Stockmann, the railway station and Kaivopiha. The property is owned by Tapiola from which Scandic rents the hotel parts of the building. Skanska Etelä-Suomi (Southern Finland) Oy was responsible for project development and the planning and construction of the hotel and commercial premises. The principal designer was Arkkitehtitoimisto Hyvämäki - Karhunen - Parkkinen. Hardinger Arkitekter AB from Sweden designed the interior of the hotel.
