New Scandic Hotel to open in Trondheim At year-end 2002, a newly constructed, ultra-modern and environmentally adapted Scandic Hotel with 153 rooms will be opened in the new Nedre Elvehavn district of Trondheim, Norway. "Nedre Elvehavn is becoming the new commercial, cultural and financial center in Trondheim. As a result, the need for hotels in Trondheim's new city district will increase," says Ivar Villa, business area manager for Scandic Hotels in Norway. He also notes that this will the first hotel establishment in Trondheim in more than ten years and that it is important that the technology city of Trondheim now gains a new, modern hotel. Scandic has signed a rental agreement with the owner of the construction project, Porthuset AS, covering the hotel and will also be involved in planning in order to adapt the hotel to Scandic's efficiency and environmental demands. The goal is that the new hotel will be Norway's most environmentally friendly Hotel. A year ago, Scandic Hotels' most recent new establishment, Scandic Hotel Byporten in Oslo, was awarded the prize as Europe's most environmentally friendly hotel establishment, and Ivar Villa promises that the new hotel will, as a minimum, reflect this same level. With the 153 new rooms in Nedre Elvehavn, Scandic Hotels will become the largest hotel chain in Trondheim. In addition to the new hotel, Scandic Hotels' operations in Trondheim include 154 rooms in the Scandic Hotel Trondheim in Moholt and the Scandic Hotel Residence with 66 rooms. As of October 1, the Scandic Hotel Prinsen with 81 rooms will also be included.
