Scandic to gain 216 new rooms in central Jönköping Scandic Hotels AB is to take over hotel operations in the Portalen building located in central Jönköping. The hotel will open for business on 1 September 1999, with 138 rooms. Following a complete renovation of the property carried out by Scandic together with Fastighets AB Corallen, the hotel will by 1 January 2000 have a total of 216 rooms, making it one of the most modern and environment-friendly hotels in Sweden. The refurbishment will include an entirely new entrance, a large lobby bar that will offer a range of snacks around the clock, and a breakfast room. Hotel guests will also have access to some 70 indoor parking spaces. The same building houses the Atlantis Spa Fitness Centre, Karlssons Salonger and conference facilities. In line with Scandic Hotels' strategy to strengthen its position in city centre locations, the Portalen property will be an ideal complement to Scandic's existing hotel at Elmia.
