Six projects to receive grants form the SAS and Coca-Cola environmental fund Six projects have been selected to receive grants totaling SEK 225,000 from the joint SAS and Coca-Cola Environmental Fund, which was founded last year to promote a better environment in the Nordic region and the Baltic states. The Scholarship Committee screened more than 50 applications from all the countries before deciding on the winners. In one way or the other, all six projects are related to water resource treatment and/or handling and recycling of waste. The award ceremony will take place at SAS's head office in Stockholm today. The Vilnius Nature Protection Society of Lithuania will receive SEK 12,000, the University of Latvia SEK 50,000, and the Bogense School in Denmark will also accept a grant of SEK 50,000. The other winners are the scouts of Anderslov, Sweden (SEK 18,000), Mr. Terje Tvedt of the University of Bergen, Norway (SEK 45,000) and Aakra School, Norway (SEK 50,000). "Several of the projects will create an exchange of experiences as well as competence within the environmental area between the Nordic countries and the Baltic states", said the Fund's Board members Bjorn H. Eriksen, Coca-Cola and Anders Westerholm, SAS. "We have also wanted to encourage projects created by forward-looking and motivated young people who want to make an effort for the environment," they added . Note to editors: The joint SAS - Coca Cola Environmental Fund was established in 1998 to contribute to research and education within the environmental area. SAS has a long-established agreement with Coca-Cola concerning the supply of soft drinks for consumption on board and in SAS lounges worldwide. When the agreement came up for renewal, the parties agreed to create a joint fund to promote environmental projects primarily within areas such as handling of water resources/waste/recycling in the Nordic region and the Baltic states.
