25 Scania trucks to a new customer in Czech Republic CSAD Melnik, a large Czech transport company, has purchased 25 new Scania trucks. The last units were recently handed over to company representatives at the Head Office of Scania Czech Republic in Prague. "We are very pleased with this deal," says Bengt Åke Gustafsson, MD of Scania's Czech subsidiary. "With 80 trucks in their fleet, C¤AD M@lnik is one of the biggest transport companies in the country. They are involved in inter- national haulage, as well as local and regional transport operations. Decisive factors in this deal were our well-developed sales and service network, as well as the support we offer." The contract comprises 15 long-haulage tractor units suitable for both trans- continental and national operation and 10 distribution trucks for regional work. Scania's sales started with an independent importer in what was then Czecho- slovakia. Sales have since developed strongly, both in Czech Republic and in Slovakia. The subsidiary Scania Czech Republic, established in 1994, has ex- tended the service network and expanded the range of support services on of- fer. The Czech truck market above 16 tonnes is currently around 2,500 units per year. Scania's market share is around 11 percent.
