Scania at Fire Asia 98: 37 new Scania fire trucks for Hong Kong's fire department This year marked a breakthrough for Scania in terms of deliveries to Hong Kong's fire department. Orders were signed for 22 new Scania fire trucks, fol- lowing on from last year's orders for 15 Scania fire trucks. Scania is fast becoming one of the leading suppliers of vehicles to fire- fighting departments in South-East Asia. Scania exhibited two of its new fire engines at Fire Asia 98 in Hong Kong, a trade fair for emergency-service sup- pliers and buyers. The bodybuilders are SK Fire of Singapore and Angloco Ltd. of England. There is considerable interest in Scania's product range in this region, with Scania emergency-rescue vehicles in service at several international airports throughout South-East Asia. Other Chinese buyers of Scania fire tenders in addition to Hong Kong are Shanghai and Canton. Among the South-East Pacific countries which have long been operating Scania vehicles in their fire depart- ments are New Zealand, Australia and Malaysia. One of the reasons for Scania's success is the new specially-designed CrewCab for advanced emergency-rescue applications. So far this year, 200 Scania chas- sis equipped with CrewCabs have been sold to fire departments in more than 20 countries in Europe and Asia for further bodybuilding. In addition to Hong Kong, Australia and New Zealand are other fast-growing markets for these spe- cial vehicles.
