500 new jobs at Scania’s European production units

Scania is recruiting 500 new employees at its European production units to deal with the increased production rate planned for the fourth quarter of 2010. About half the new jobs will be in Sweden.

Scania is planning to speed up its production rate mainly because of the increase in demand from truck markets outside Europe. The European market is continuing to recover but remains at a low level in a historical perspective.

Scania hired 500 people at its European production units earlier in 2010 as well − late during the first half. Despite the year’s recruitment rounds, the number of employees at these units will be lower than before the financial crisis.

“During 2009 our employees used the period of low capacity utilisation for training and to develop and improve our methods and ways of working. Thanks to these efforts, we have achieved substantially improved productivity,” says Anders Nielsen, Executive Vice President and Head of Production and Logistics.
