Good start for Scania's bus operations in Russia Agreement signed for 50 city buses to Rostov Scania's focus on the Russian bus market has resulted in an agreement to supply 50 city buses to Rostov. "We regard Russia as an important growth market for Scania and the agreement is clear evidence of this focus, at the same time as it represents a major breakthrough into the large city bus segment," says PG Nilsson, President of Scania Russia. The agreement encompasses Scania's total concept, including a service and repair contract. "In order to handle that part of the order, Scania will establish a service workshop for buses and trucks in Rostov," explains PG Nilsson. The buses destined for Rostov are Scania's low-entrance models for city operations, with an aluminium body supplied by Swiss bodybuilder Hess, with whom Scania enjoys close cooperation. Deliveries will begin in the first quarter of 2001, and most of the buses will be made at Scania's new assembly plant in St. Petersburg, where pro- duction gets under way early next year. The new assembly plant in St. Petersburg, which will have a technical pro- duction capacity of 250 buses a year, will initially have a staff of about 100.
