Continued success for Scania’s Euro 4 engines

Scania continues to record good sales of trucks with engines that already comply with Euro 4, the EU emission control standard which will apply to all newly-developed engines as of 1 October 2005 and to all new truck sales a year later. For example, three leading Dutch haulage firms have ordered almost 400 trucks with Euro 4 engines. To date, Scania has sold over 2,000 trucks complying with the Euro 4 limits.

To hauliers, lower road taxes and reduced motorway charges in countries such as Germany, Austria and Switzerland are what make it profitable to invest now in trucks that already comply with forthcoming emission control standards. Scania was the first manufacturer of heavy trucks to offer engines complying with Euro 4. The first deliveries of these trucks took place back in September 2004. Scania’s Euro 4 engine has an output of 420 hp and is based on EGR technology (Exhaust Gas Recirculation), which means that the emissions are cleaned by the engine combustion, without requiring either aftertreatment or other substances.
