New Scania Centre opens in Warsaw Scania continues to expand in Poland On Wednesday, the President and CEO of Scania, Leif Östling, inaugurated the latest Scania Polska facility in Warsaw. The new Scania Center, the result of a 40 million kronor investment, is located in Nadarzyn about 20 kilometres south of Warsaw along the motorway to Katowitze, and it will be the hub of Scania's growing operations in Poland. With the completion of the new facility, which was built in the record time of just 21 weeks, Scania has invested about 125 million kronor in Poland since the start of the '90s. The new centre, which covers an area of just over 5,000 square metres, brings under one roof Scania Polska's headquarters and all the functions that handle the Polish distribution operation, including Scania Finance. It also houses the Scania distributorship for the Warsaw area, one of the fastest-growing regions in Poland. In addition, there is a modern workshop and service facility with space for handling seven long-haul rigs simulta- neously, as well as the regional parts store. Scania has also placed its training facility for Polish service staff in the new centre. "Now we've brought everything together in one location, something that Scania has already done with its wholly-owned distribution companies in countries such as the Czech Republic and Hungary. For Poland, however, this is an entirely new approach," says Christoffer Ljungner, Managing Director of Scania Polska. Scania currently has about 20 percent of the market for heavy trucks in Poland, and there are more than 5,000 Scania trucks on Polish roads today. Scania began to methodically extend its sales organisation in Poland dur- ing the early 1990s. In 1993, local assembly operations were started in Slupsk and two years later saw the establishment of the subsidiary company Scania Polska. Scania has also been assembling buses in Slupsk for many years now. Scania has local distributors throughout Poland, linked via a network of 23 service workshops spread across the country.
