“Now Scania has all the technical solutions and also the engine platform needed to fulfil the Euro 6 emission standards that go into effect at the end of 2013,” said Jonas Hofstedt, Senior Vice President Powertrain at a press conference earlier today where Scania presented its new V8 truck range to international trade media. This marked the last step in creating a new engine platform for Euro 6. Featuring 3500 Nm and 730 hp, Scania’s new top-of-the-line V8 has the highest torque and power ratings of any truck engine.

The new V8 is fully integrated in Scania's modular engine range. It is based on the modular engine platform and technologies used on Scania's newest inline 5- and 6-cylinder engines, while also sharing numerous features and components with the existing V8s. In conjunction with the launch of the new top-output engine, Scania’s whole range of V8 truck models is being given a unique identity that reflects the strong position these models enjoy in the market, both among drivers and transport companies. “Scania’s V8 trucks have built a niche of their own in the truck market,” says Henrik Henriksson, Senior Vice President Trucks at Scania. “The majority of Scania's V8 customers buy for rational reasons. They need the performance, dependability and availability to get their job done as efficiently as possible.” Scania V8 trucks dominate the high-output end of the truck market, accounting for more than half of total sales volume above 600 hp. With a fourth power rating to choose from, Scania's demanding V8 customers now have a wide choice that nobody can match. The press material for Scania's new V8 trucks is available at www.scania.com/media/V8, where you can also view a recording of the press conference after 16.30 CET. Continued launches despite financial crisis The introduction of the new range of V8 trucks is the fourth major product launch from Scania during the past 12 months. The initial step was the introduction of a new platform for industrial engines that meets new environmental standards being introduced for this industry in 2011 and 2014. In September 2009, the new R-series was presented; soon after, it was named Europe’s International Truck of the Year 2010. The new Scania R-series features an improved driver environment and better fuel economy, as well as the improved engine cooling capacity needed to meet the European emission regulations that take effect in 2014. In October 2009 Scania unveiled the Scania Touring, a brand new range of coaches for occasional service built in cooperation with Chinese bus and coach manufacturer Higer.
